Meet Team ST3
Over 60 years of combined coaching and martial arts experience
Shira Reback
NASM Certified Personal Trainer and MMA Conditioning Coach, RDH, Founder ST3 Kickboxing and Fitness
Fitness and wellness has been a passion of Shira’s for over 20 years. She understands that health and self care go way beyond weight loss. In her long career in healthcare, Shira has seen firsthand the struggles that people face regarding to their health. Lifestyle diseases are prominent in our society today. Through fitness, nutrition, and education there is a way to build a better system. It’s not easy, and Shira is willing and ready to be a partner on this.
“Kickboxing is so much more than a workout. I have seen people firsthand leave the demons of their day on the bags and mats, and walk away from class with a sense of calm and wellbeing. Kickboxing and fitness changed my life. I am passionate about sharing that with others, knowing it can have the same effect for them.”
Shira began her personal transformation in her 20s. After an abusive relationship, Shira found herself a struggling single mom with about 50 pounds of extra weight. Not only was she extremely unhappy with her appearance, she suffered from low self-esteem. Shira knew this was not the example she wanted to set for her daughter. Leaving behind that bad relationship had turned into a source of empowerment. Shira started by taking on her fitness. Initially she started taking cardio classes and working out with friends at a local gym. One day while taking a cardio kickboxing class Shira came to the realization that kickboxing is something she would like to really learn as a skill. Luckily there was a location near her office, and she enrolled. Whatever classes Shira could attend, she made sure to be there. She brought her daughter with her on nights she could not find childcare. Things were tight financially, but Shira viewed kickboxing as an investment. She also knew that with her daughter watching, she was setting a good example.
Eventually Shira became an instructor. She found empowerment in empowering others. When Shira helped others reach their fitness goals, she realized that it was more motivation for her to continue with hers.
Shira has studied multiple forms of martial arts, and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Shira is also a competitive body builder.
As a healthcare provider Shira studied nutrition as part of her undergraduate studies and in continuing education. Shira believes that nutrition is a key component to people maximizing their goals. It certainly was a key component to her reaching her own personal goals. “Fueling your body is more than just calories in and calories out. Fueling means we are giving our bodies the nutrition it requires, not simply to live, but to THRIVE.”
All of these components, together with passion, are what fuels the heart and sole of ST3 Kickboxing.
Diane Kyvik
Instructor
Diane’s class is exciting and high energy! You will not stop moving the entire class, and you won’t want to. Diane has an amazing, positive spirit, and she pours love into each and every member.
Diane is a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. She has been studying martial arts and self defense programs including Krav Maga since 2002. When an adult kickboxing program was introduced at her do jang 5 years ago, she found that incorporating all of her past training combined with kickboxing, was the perfect formula for a fun and intense workout. Soon after, by utilizing her passion to encourage, and her love for people, the student became the teacher.
“One of my greatest joys is to see people get healthier, to help them exceed their expectations and actualize their goals. All while realizing that exercise is fun.”
Diane has been a resident of Monroe since 1995 with her husband and two daughters. The relationships she has made during her martial arts career, have been the best part of her years of dedication, study and training.
Theresa Zacek
Instructor
Theresa is a fitness enthusiast, and was one of Shira’s first clients. Theresa being gifted and driven, quickly mastered excellent technique and skill in kickboxing class. After 3 years of training, it was very clear that she belonged in a coaching position. Theresa has an amazing way of breaking strikes down into easy to understand form cues, to make sure you are practicing with great form. You will get an INTENSE workout as well! We will let Theresa tell you a little more about herself:
“Hi! I’m Theresa. I am a number of years old and I won’t list how many here not because I’m ashamed of aging (mentally I’m somewhere between 5 and 103) but because (with any luck) that number will continue to change and increase every year for quite some time. I do librarian things by day and I teach kickboxing at night (and in the VERY early morning.) I like books and motorcycles and legos and my couch on Friday nights and challenging myself to do things that scare me. My wardrobe is mostly workout gear and sweatpants. I love to run and lift weights (and to complain about running and lifting weights) and I still love hitting things. I will make you do burpees. And jump rope. I hope I can make a little bit of difference for as many people as I can and I hope I am always open to new things and new experiences. I also have an amazing gym in my basement and you all are welcome to come work out with me whenever you want*.”
*Literally no one ever takes her up on this. Please come keep her company!
