Equipment
The best protection for your hands and wrists
What Equipment Do I Need?
Your hands are delicate instruments with many bones and ligaments. If you walk into any kickboxing, MMA, or boxing gym, all professionals will have their hands wrapped for training. We throw hundreds of punches in one class alone, and the hands take a lot of impact.
It is so important to invest in decent equipment, and relatively inexpensive. We’ve seen many people try to go “cheap” because they don’t want to spend the $45 on a good pair of beginner boxing/training gloves. Don’t get too hung up on the color (we can probably special order if you insist). A beginner kickboxer should purchase a good 12oz to 14oz pair of boxing gloves.
While MMA, or fingerless gloves, keep your hands useable and seem kind of cool, they have less protection compared to a boxing glove. They are NOT recommended for mitt sessions and the tighter fit makes it difficult to use hand wraps or knuckle protection.
Wraps: Wraps are additional protection for the delicate instruments that are your hands. Wraps provide additional support for the wrists, and additional padding for the knuckles. We recommend 180” cotton wraps. We have wraps available for purchase at ST3 Kickboxing and Fitness.
Footwear: Most of us workout barefoot and we recommend it to develop proper foot conditioning. If you do prefer something on your feet, we have specific shoes available that are made for kicking with proper form. Your strikes start from the ground up. We want to ensure that you can move your feet properly with every kick and punch. Please ask your instructor if you would like to learn more. Socks are not allowed.
Attire: Comfortable workout clothing is suggested. We stock exclusive ST3 Kickboxing apparel, so you can share our ST3 PRIDE!
Equipment can be purchased through our MINDBODY app and picked up at the studio.
